KNOLL COTTAGE DAYLILIES ANNUAL UPDATE
This year we
are announcing the joining of two great gardens. Harmon Hill Farm in NH,
www.harmonhillfarm.com, zone 5, and Knoll Cottage Daylilies in Western MA, zone 5. As you can see by the pictures added to my web
site each year, my garden is very small and I was running out of room. Carl & Marlene Harmon have graciously allowed me to send my
excess stock to their garden for sale giving me the precious room needed to evaluate more seedlings for possible introduction.
If you go to my blog
Blog:http://knollcottagedaylilies.blogspot.com
you can see all those precious babies for yourself.
Another great announcement is that Knoll Cottage Daylilies will be shipping Internationally. If you go to ‘How To Order’ page on
this site, all the instructions are clearly written there for you if you are interested.
In December, 2011, The AHS Journal will be featuring an article written by yours truly. If you are a cold climate hybridizer and
you do not have a greenhouse to start your seedlings, please take the time to read this article. You may find it well worth your while.
In January, 2012, if you go to my blog, you will find a not so condensed version of the article with more pictures and a source
list for all described products.
The Summer of 2011, was nice and sunny and the daylilies bloomed beautifully. Dan and I went to the Region 4 in Canada and had
the best time ever. This was the first Regional Dan ever attended and he got to enjoy the entire event. The gardens were
spectacular and the garden owners were marvelous. We went to three open gardens on the way to the Regional and saw one on
the way out of Canada. We wished we could have seen more because of what we did see, they were fantastic. ODS did an
astonishing job in hosting this event. When I asked Dan if he would go again to an ODS Regional, he said, “In a heartbeat”.
I am so looking forward to 2012. It should be an astounding year. For one thing the National will be in Ohio in July and that
is looking like it will just be the best time ever.
My seedlings planted in 2011 will be blooming their little heads off and
I just can’t wait to see some of those crosses. I’ll share those pictures on my blog.
Last but not least, Region 4's Finger Lakes Daylily
Society will be
hosting the Regional Meeting in September at Canandaigua (Lake), NY. Everyone that has gone to this Regional in the past have
enjoyed themselves to no end.
Three great sources for purchasing daylilies for Northern climates are:
Carl & Marlene Harmon, www.harmonhillfarm.com NH, zone 5.
Lisa & Paul Bourret, www.rockhavendaylilies.com ME, zone 5 (but a very cold 5).
Tom & Kathy Rood, www.gracegardens.com NY, zone 5. Tom also does my web site.
My wish to every one in 2012: Enjoy every moment, treasure every friend, but most of all love your mate like there is no tomorrow,
each and every day. Also, may your daylilies bloom and put a smile on your lips when you see their faces from a distance
or up close and personal.
