WHIP CITY BREEZIE
(RED SUSPENDERS X CAMEROONS) Tetraploid, Dormant, M, CRISPATE, Twisting, 32 inches tall, 6 ½ inch flower
as is, 3 branches ( 1 lateral plus a Y) with an 11 BC. No fragrance.
Pod fertile. Hardy Zone 5.
Like a sailboat on a calm ocean, WHIP CITY BREEZIE has a delicate movement from the curling of the sepals to the pinching of the petals.
The color is a lovely rose pink blend that lightens just a bit as the day progresses and the sun has done its magic
(Photo on the right). The yellow
to green throat moves out onto the petals giving the allusion of an eye but I believe it is the blending of the yellow throat onto
the rose pink. I would have to say that the pollen looks good, but I have not used it. I have only
set pod on this wonderful daylily. WHIP CITY BREEZIE is not the fastest multiplier, but does grow at a nice pace.

WHIP CITY FOXIE LADY
(RED SUSPENDERS X SPIDER MAN) Tetraploid, SEV, M, UFO, CRISPATE, Pinched, 34 inches tall,
7 inch flower as is, 3 branches (1 lateral plus a Y) with a 10 BC. No fragrance.
Pod and pollen fertile. Hardy Zone 5.
WHIP CITY FOXIE LADY is a luscious bright red daylily with a yellow to green throat that pinches beautifully time and time again.
A real stand out in the garden, catching your eye as you pass, making garden visitors ask if this one was for sale.
Sometimes when a UFO seedling blooms for the first time, you just know it’s a winner and when it passes the test of time,
it just has to be introduced. WHIP CITY FOXIE LADY for sure is a winner and will enhance your garden year after year.

WHIP CITY HANKIE SPANKIE
(Unknown X RED SUSPENDERS) Tetraploid, SEV, EM, UFO, CRISPATE, Pinched, 40 + inches tall, 8 inch
flower as is, 3 branches (1 lateral plus a Y) with a 16 BC. No fragrance.
Pollen fertile. I have not been able to set pod on this beauty. Hardy Zone 5.
There comes a time in a hybridizers life that a choice must be made as to whether to introduce a flower for it’s beauty or
for it’s ability to set pod. With WHIP CITY HANKIE SPANKIE, the choice is to register a beautiful daylily with a breathtaking
intense, deep red coloration that can get darker depending on your soil. I had sent this daylily to Harmon Hill Farm for the
2008 New England Regional in NH. It was blooming in my yard on Thursday and when I saw it blooming at Carl’s on Friday, I did
not recognize it because the color was more of a deeper brown red. Talk about total confusion on my part but in any color,
WHIP CITY HANKIE SPANKIE is truly an impressive garden specimen making the back of the border pop with excitement.

WHIP CITY OOPSIE
(CHICAGO STAR X RED SUSPENDERS), Tetraploid, EM, Dormant, UFO CRISPATE (Pinched), Gold self, 7 ½ inch
flower as is, 41 inches tall, 12 BC,
3 Branches (1 lateral + Y), No fragrance.
Pod & pollen fertile. Hardy in Zone 5.
WHIP CITY OOPSIE is a superb parent passing on branching and BC on more than one occasion. An example of this trait is WHIP CITY
SLINKY SLIDE ’09 loaded with buds and great branching (see WC Slinky Slide in
2009 intros).
On this intro, WHIP CITY OOPSIE, we seemed to have placed the cart before the horse so to speak, (registering the offspring first)
but the only reason it was not introduced sooner is because I was remiss in acquiring pertinent information to register OOPSIE,
hence the name. The intense golden color with just a hint of a green throat makes WHIP CITY OOPSIE very alluring making it a
true show off with flair.

WHIP CITY SQUIGLIE
[WHIP CITY ZINGIE ‘09 (KNOLL COTTAGE TOTSIE MAMA ‘07 x RED SUSPENDERS) X ASTRAL VOYAGER]
Tetraploid, EV, EM, UFO, CRISPATE, Twisting, 37 inches tall, 6 inch flower as is, 3 way branching (1 lateral plus a Y) with a 13 BC. No fragrance.
Instant rebloom. Pod fertile. (I have not used the pollen).
Hardy Zone 5.
For a number of years now, WHIP CITY SQUIGLIE has been sending up instant rebloom scapes (I believe since 2007, when I was
evaluating the clump, I remember thinking, ‘I saved the right one’ after I had discarded its sibs and I believe I had made notations,
but that note is no where to be found). Since this daylily is a good increaser, it will not take long to get a nice clump in your
garden. In 2008, WHIP CITY SQUIGLIE sent up 4 instant rebloom scapes in a mature clump and then I divided and lined
out for a 2010 Introduction. Even though it was all split up in October of 2008, WHIP CITY SQUIGLIE sent up an instant rebloom
scape in one fan in 2009. To me as a hybridizer, it is telling me that this is a trait and not just something that happens
on occasion. The first bloom time picture date I have is 7-9-07 (Photo on
the left) and the last bloom time picture date I have is 7-27-07 (Photo
on the left).
You can still see buds on the scapes. If you purchase this wonderful daylily, do allow
the fans a few years to establish before you expect WHIP CITY SQUIGLIE to do its own thing by giving you a long bloom time
in your garden with instant rebloom.

WHIP CITY WHIMSIE
(CHICAGO ROYAL X LONG STOCKING) Tetraploid, Sev., EM, UFO CRISPATE Twisting, 35 inches tall,
7 ½ to 8 inch flower, 3 to 4 way branching (1 or 2 laterals with a Y) with a 12 to 15 BC. Fragrant.
Pod and pollen fertile. Hardy Zone 5.
We have a chameleon here with WHIP CITY WHIMSIE. In the morning it starts off with a lovely shade of lavender with a hint of an
eye and an intense yellow to green throat, but by the afternoon the sun turns it into a lovely pale rose red daylily.
(Photo on the right.) The petals and the sepals twist and curl and do their own thing from day to day.
Keep it shaded or put it in the sun and enjoy WHIP CITY WHIMSIE for Summers to come.

BIG HONKING CARL
(Seedling X RED SUSPENDERS) Tetraploid, D., ML, Bi-color, Large flower, 37 inches tall, 7 inch flower, 3 branches,
(1 lateral plus a Y) with a 12 BC. No fragrance.
Pod and pollen fertile. Hardy Zone 5.
BIG HONKING CARL is appealing in a number of ways. For one it is a bi-color showing a lovely overlay of rose to raspberry
purple over the base red colored petals and a lighter color on the sepals. Secondly the petals have lovely soft ruffling with
a pale golden yellow pencil line. The pinching is not strong enough on all three (3) petals for me to call this flower a UFO,
but the ability to be used in breeding for that purpose is highly recommended especially if you are working with ruffling on
a large daylily.
Carl Harmon, owner of Harmon Hill Farm, liked this daylily when it bloomed for him in his garden after the 2008 Regional.
The scapes were only a foot or so high for the Regional. (Dummy me forgot to check when it should bloom). For many reasons
and with his permission, we have named it after him. What can I say, “Carl and BIG HONKING CARL are just lovable”.

BIG HONKING FRENCH KISSES
[Seedling # 98-47 (RED SUSPENDERS x SPIDER MAN) X LONG STOCKINGS] Tetraploid, Dormant, EM, Large
flower, 36 inches tall, 8 inch flower as is, 3 way branching (1 lateral plus a Y) with a 13 BC. This intro has fragrance.
Pollen fertile. BIG HONKING FRENCH KISSES has set pod on it’s own, but has not set for me. Hardy Zone 5.
BIG HONKING FRENCH KISSES is a luscious light orange red daylily with a yellow to green throat. What I like best about this daylily
is the color, the slight ruffling on the petals and sepals and the size of the flower. This makes this daylily very visible and
showy even at a distance. BIG HONKING FRENCH KISSES holds it’s color well, though the color is not as intense a saturation by the
end of the day as with (Picture on the right) many daylilies, but it will not disappoint you.

BIG HONKING HEART THROB
[Seedling (VELVET WIDOW x Seedling) X Mason Seedling] Tetraploid, Sev., M to ML, Large flower,
32 inches tall, 6 ½ inch flower, 3 branches (1 lateral plus a Y) with a 10 to 14 BC. No fragrance. Instant rebloom in ’08.
Pod and pollen fertile. Hardy Zone 5.
BIG HONKING HEART THROB has been an attention getter right from the beginning. The color is a lovely orange red with a red eye
enhanced by a yellow to green throat. I will not be registering it as an Instant rebloom only because it did it for me once.
If you are a daylily enthusiast, and you like the color orange red because it pops, then BIG HONKING HEART THROB is for your garden.

BIG HONKING RED HEAD
[Seedling X Seedling (KNOLL COTTAGE TOTSIE MAMA X RED SUSPENDERS)], Tetraploid, Dormant, ML,
Large flower, 40 inches tall, 7 inch flower, 3 to 4 way branching, with a 23 to 30 BC. No fragrance.
Pod and pollen fertile. Hardy Zone 5.
BIG HONKING RED HEAD is a fairly long blooming, bright red, large daylily with a yellow to green throat bursting out onto the
petals and sepals. BIG HONKING RED HEAD has a very arresting color and shows a thin pencil line of pale yellow along the sepals.
If you are looking to extend your mid late garden daylily blooms, then this is a must to acquire.

KNOLL COTTAGE TIA MARIE
(RHYTHM OF THE SAINTS X MASK OF TIME) Tetraploid, Sev., M to ML, 34 inches tall, 5 inch flower,
3 branches (1 lateral plus a Y), 13 BC.
Pod fertile. (I have not tried the pollen), Hardy Zone 5.
The coloration of this daylily is quite wonderful as is the granddaughter I have named it after. Tia loves lavenders and purples
and this daylily has it all. A lovely deep lavender enhanced by the deeper purple throat and a little edge to add interest.
What makes this daylily pop is the lighter midrib coming from deep inside the throat to the tip of the petals, almost like a burst
of sun. Some pictures I have of KNOLL COTTAGE TIA MARIE, shows it rolling back its petals just a little, but either way it is a
lovely daylily.
