Lori-Ann Jones' 2008 Daylily Introductions
![]() (SPIDER MAN X LONG STOCKING) Tetraploid, Hardy EV, Early, 27 inches tall, 8 inch flower as is, 1 lateral branch plus a Y with a 13 BC. Pod & Pollen fertile. Very HARDY in Zone 5. BIG HONKING FLAMING FLOOZY is a large, fragrant, bright red daylily with an amazing yellow to green throat. It is also the sib of WHIP CITY SHOW STOPPER. In 2006, before the LIDS National Convention, my friends from NH came to pick me up. It was Bea Thibeault’s birthday that day and for her gift, I told her she had that day and Sunday to choose any daylily or seedling in the garden for her birthday gift. Upon returning on Sunday, after much deliberation, she choose BIG HONKING FLAMING FLOOZY. It got dug and shipped in August 2006 and BIG HONKING FLAMING FLOOZY bloomed in her garden this past 2007 summer. As an added comment, she loves the name BIG HONKING FLAMING FLOOZY and Bea said, “The name fits it perfectly.” $125 SF Limited |
![]() (RED SUSPENDERS X SPIDERMAN) Tetraploid, Dormant, M, 24 inches tall, 7 ˝ inch flower. 1 lateral plus a Y with a 9 BC. Pod & pollen fertile. Very HARDY in Zone 5. BIG HONKING LUCY GOOSIE has been just wonderful as a garden plant with its yellow to green throat enhanced by the brightness of its deeper red coloration. The bud count is not what I would like, but BIG HONKING LUCY GOOSIE deserved to be introduced due to the admiration of many garden visitors. Also the seedlings produced from BIG HONKING LUCY GOOSIE are showing real potential. (Click here to see three of them. These seedlings are still under evaluation.) $100 SF Limited |
![]() (CHICAGO CARDINAL X RED SUSPENDERS) Tetraploid, Dormant, M, Unusual Form, CRISPATE – Pinched, 39 inches tall, 8 inch flower as is, 3 way branching plus a Y with a 19 BC. (Click here to see bud count.).Pod & pollen fertile. Very HARDY in Zone 5. WHIP CITY CHUCKIE is a beautiful red, fragrant daylily with a yellow to green throat and a very good bud count for the North. The red holds very nicely even in the heat of the day and WHIP CITY CHUCKIE does not have any difficulty in opening. I named this daylily after Chuck Hubbell, an Exhibition Judge and Garden Judge, whom upon visiting my home and garden with his wonderful wife, Mary, before the 2007 CDS Regional, thought this seedling was perfection and I have to agree. Chuck could not see any way to improve on WHIP CITY CHUCKIE, but I am sure there is as there is always room for improvement. $125 SF Limited |
![]() (FRANKIES FANTASY X CAMEROONS) Tetraploid, Dormant, M, Unusual Form, CRISPATE – Twisting, 47 inches tall, 6 ˝ inch flower as is, 1 lateral plus a Y with a 17 BC. (Click here to see more views.). Pod and pollen fertile. Very HARDY in Zone 5. WHIP CITY CURLY Q. is a beautiful rose colored Unusual Form that is taller than the rest in my garden. When the Valley Bloomer Garden Club visited my garden in July of 2007, I heard comments on how tall this seedling was. This year it reached 50 inches but I have registered it on an average height of 47 inches. WHIP CITY CURLY Q. does not open the same from day to day as it is tighter or looser in the way it twists and curls. The throat is a wonderful yellow green color but alas has no fragrance. $125 SF Limited |
